Waskerley Way - “Sista”

A new digital record has emerged from the UK’s original catwave pioneer Waskerley Way, the moniker of Newcastle’s Michael Bridgewater. It’s called Haunted Tors, and it’s available today for your listening pleasure on bandcamp and SoundCloud.

The album is Michael’s interpretation of a narrative involving the resistance against a tyrannical government, following a loose theme of honoring family and friends. By incorporating elements from various styles including instrumental hip-hop and musique concrète, Waskerley Way achieves melodic compositions which seem to transcend barriers of pop music into some sort of parallel literary realm.

The sounds on Haunted Tors perpetuate a sense of wonder and mystique, tiptoeing on the tightrope between minimalism and complexity. It’s a slightly deeper, more full-bodied collection of songs than we are used to, while still maintaining the glamorous lo-fi pop sensibilities of Waskerley Way’s previous releases.

Listen to “Sista,” the loopy, shoegazing standout posted above, then head over to bandcamp for a name-your-price download of the wondrous new album. You might be surprised by what you hear.

Earbuds recommended.

Waskerley Way - “Total Fluke”

UK glam pop artist Waskerley Way dropped a gorgeous new three-song album on bandcamp last week. The title track, “Wind Shear,” is a nine minute summer chill-out suitable for romantic picnics or stoned sunbathing. “Total Fluke” is a more concise kickback, rolling strange, sunny vibes into a straightforward, post-chillwave pop jam. Then things get weird on the closing track “Manzanares,” one of Waskerley Way’s most exotic and psychedelic bangers to date.

Wind Shear is a perfect companion for your sunny daze. The whole thing is available for “name your own price” download on bandcamp, or you can listen to it via Soundcloud if you prefer.

MEOW.

Waskerley Way - “Ghost Cat”

Newcastle’s premiere “cat-wave” bro Waskerlely Way has put out a new single to get us purring with anticipation for his upcoming full-length called Waterfall. The album will be available soon on everyone’s favorite cassette label Wonder Beard Tapes. Waskerley Way currently has two songs from the album available for download on his bandcamp page.

“Ghost Cat” is chillwavey little hipshaker blanketed with warm n’ fuzzy shoegaze vox. It is paired with “Hyper Hazard,” a jubilantly frantic instrumental piece of pop-electronica that will have you “jumping around nimbley bimbley from tree to tree.” Grab both of them here for whatever price you deem worthy. Follow Waskerley Way on Tumblr for more updates on the album.
