White Horse - “Sewn Shut”
IT’S NOT SUMMER YET…
White Horse is the brilliant grave wave project of Los Angeles’ Ben Chisholm. He has just released the third volume in a series of short albums called The Revenant Gospels. The tagline gives you an idea of what the project sounds like… “all vocals performed by those whom are no longer with us.”
A concept that is macabre as it as genius, as dark as it is beautiful, the magic of this release lies in it’s execution, or should I say, it’s resurrection. The Revenant Gospels Vol. III channels the spirits of Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain and others through a respectful seance of soft synths and vocal manipulation.
See if you can make out the vocal sample in “Sewn Shut.” It took me a little while but once I picked up on it I felt like an idiot for not getting it right away. Mama told you not to raise the dead, but this White Horse project is a tasteful and gorgeous reinterpretation of exhumed vocal samples seamlessly weaved into mystical pieces of original music. Sure I’m a sucker for seance vibes, but this is the real deal.
