Chelsea Wolfe - “Widow”

[The Grime and the Glow, Pendu, 2010]

Chelsea Wolfe might be one of the best kept secrets in LA. Her debut LP The Grime and the Glow, released on Pendu Sound Recordings in late December, is as haunting as it is intriguing. Her dark and spiritual brand of lo-fi experimentalism transcends the boundaries of a traditional singer-songwriter into more expansive territory. Her voice serves as the heart and soul of her music, while the ghostly, atmospheric sludge of the accompanying funeral pianos and distant guitars serve as the album’s chilly, clattering bones. Her recordings are both immediate and eternal, summoning a peaceful dark energy which feeds off the tenderness of the soul.

Chelsea will be opening for a sold out Noise Pop show with How To Dress Well, Dominant Legs, and Shlohmo this coming Saturday at Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco. If you around the city this weekend for the annual Noise Pop Fest, be sure to arrive early on Saturday to catch her set. You will not want to miss what is sure to be a one of a kind experience. In any case, go listen to the rest album if you haven’t heard it yet.
