Yalls - “Grand Entrance”

“It’s basically a tear it up pizza anthem for our generation.” - @yallsmusic

This fresh instrumental beat from Berkeley’s Dan Casey (a.k.a. Yalls) has been making the rounds since he posted it to his SoundCloud on Monday night, and rightly so. I had the pleasure of being introduced to this track in the flesh during his headline performance at Milk Bar SF on Saturday night, which was one of the best I’ve seen from the local legend.

Everyone was vibin’ hard to the build up, but it wasn’t until the orgasmic drop at the two-minute mark that asses really hit the floor. Originally intended as a wild hip-hop beat, this banger definitely stands on its own. Stacked with high-pitched samples and future-funk hooks, “Grand Entrance” is not be fucked with. In fact, Dan will probably kick you out of the club if you try rapping in his face. You can ride the vibe, just don’t kill it.

And as if one bangin’ beat wasn’t enough, Yalls dropped another one late last night. Enjoy.

Sea Glasses - “they come in dark suits”

Sea Glasses is the latest musical endeavor from Garrett Mombourquette, who previously recorded under the moniker Aux Out. The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia based songwriter recently released a gorgeous new album titled The Sky is Such a Choir Here, currently available for name-your-price download on bandcamp (Deerhunter fans would be unwise to sleep on it). Part-time percussionist Brant Hunter provides drums on the haunting standout “They Come In Dark Suits.”

“Take hold…” Mombourquette sings, in a hushed, ethereal tone, as the guitar melody gently pulls you into the soft and comforting haze of the unknown. Close your eyes and ignore the men in dark suits, they mean you no harm.

BIRTHDAYS - “Pizza Baby”

April is a pretty good month for birthdays. April is a pretty cool month to start blogging again. Any day is a good day for pizza.

Birthdays is Boston’s Samuel Yager of FMLY fame. Although this track isn’t particularly new, via last summer’s No Fear of Pop premiere, it has resurfaced as part of a teaser compilation for FMLY Fest 2012. Why not grab another slice?

If you plan on being in NYC this summer, you will be a fool to miss this party. The D.I.T. festival will be taking place in Brooklyn, NY on June 22 and 23. In addition to Birthdays, the festival will be showcasing FMLY favorites such as Yohuna, Truman Peyote, Winks, and many more to be announced.

Whether or not you can make it out to FMLY Fest, feel free to snuggle up with your pizza pillow and zone out to the warped vocals on this birthday baby. Make a wish before you blow out the candles, and blow on your pizza before you eat it. Please be safe… when in doubt, put a fixie on it.

Sorry for being a stranger. Let’s get weird.

UPDATE: The track has been slightly tweaked with extra cheese for this release.

Top Girls - “I Know You Suffer”

MP3 »  Top Girls - “I Know You Suffer (Police Academy 6 Remix)”

“I Know You Suffer” is the second single from Top GirlsWe Will Rise EP, out now on Chill Mega Chill. This sinfully short and ever-soulful new-R&B jam from North Carolina’s Evan Adams will send a shiver up your spine as his smooth and subtle falsetto washes over a fleeting beat.

Download the single from Bandcamp, which comes with a blown-out remix from Police Academy 6 as a sweet bonus (also posted above). You can order the Top Girls We Will Rise EP on a rad limited edition cassette tape from Chill Mega Chill.

Got a lot of love to give.

Bodyboat - “0044”

MP3 »  Bodyboat - “Eros”

Bodyboat is a currently anonymous electronic project from Oslo that has recently caught the attention of the blogosphere with its silky, haunted beats on a couple of solid tracks. You may have stumbled upon the creepy video for Bodyboat’s latest release, “0044,” but it also serves well as a stand alone piece allowing your imagination to run wild.

“Eros” is another outstanding, more pop-centric jam with undertones of subtle darkness hidden beneath the sexy vocal samples. So far, only a few tracks have surfaced under the Bodyboat stamp. They can be found on Bandcamp or Soundcloud. As far as I know this artist is unsigned, but fans of the Tri-Angle label should definitely keep their ears open for Bodyboat’s next move.

There’s nobody here.

Witch Gardens - “Rain Delay”

MP3»  Witch Gardens - “I’m A Dark Individual”

Witch Gardens is currently my top contender for the coolest band in Seattle and the cutest band in the world. The old-fashioned, soul-gazing harmonies of this adorable four-piece will warm your heart and bring a teeny-weenie tear to your eye.

With a new album in the works, the band has offered up a taste of their sweet new material on the autumn-tinged singles “Rain Delay” and “I’m A Dark Individual.” Listen to Beth and Karolyn’s seraphic vocal harmonies wash over Casey’s west-coast guitar shreds and Sara’s bitchin’ drum kicks.

You can order “Rain Delay” in 7” vinyl format from Highfives and Handshakes, paired with recent ballad “Goodbye Ball” on the flipside.

Teen Porn - “Twist N’ Shout”

Sometimes dreams do come true. A full-length album has been announced today from Mat Cothran (Coma Cinema) and Rachel Levy (Kiss Kiss Fantastic, Kitteh Fur) whose combined talents make up the delightful nightmare-pop project called Teen Porn. Rachel’s irresistible siren guides you through the darkness as sinister synths and insomniac beats push and pull through disorienting astral planes.

“Twist N’ Shout” is the feverish debut single from the upcoming Way Out LP, most likely due towards the end of the year. You can download the single, along with the four previous Teen Porn tracks, free from their bandcamp page. Don’t be afraid. Don’t ever be afraid.

ON REPEAT FOREVER.

Chrome Sparks - “Doubt, No”

Michigan beat-wizard Jeremy Malvin (a.k.a. Chrome Sparks) is back on the grind with seven brand new tracks behind his latest release, My <3. The album’s opener is “Doubt, No”—a late night slow-burner teasing with pitch-shifted vocal samples and a cheery beat. It’s a stellar soundtrack for stars dancing across the night sky.

The album features some other great new cuts from Chrome Sparks including a couple collaborations with LA singer/songwriter/sweetheart Steph Thompson (a.k.a. Steffaloo). Be sure to check it out if you are into them chilled-out electronic vibes.

You can grab My <3 over at bandcamp, via name-your-price download. Get into the groove.
